When we talk about getting organized people usually get an impression of a spick and span office with not a paper out of place. But my experience tells me that an office like that may work well for some, but be more distracting for others. You see "neat" does not always equal "organized". I can make it neat by throwing everything way, or getting it out of the space in some other manner, but you still may not be able to find your favorite pen and the notebook with the puppies in the corner. I believe that organizing is a relative term. It is all a matter of convenience for the client.
In an organized office there will be a place for every thing and everything will be in its place. But at the same time you should be able to lay your hands on the object you need the moment you need it. And in this respect a little bit of clutter is ok.
Once we have achieved the nirvana state in your office it is helpful that it be organized for others who may come into your newly found nirvana as well. It is here that labels and tags can prove to be very important. Every single file should have a label and every thing should be filed properly. It is not enough that you know things are in the filing cabinet or cupboard, you should be able to open a door and see it fairly quickly. I find that labels make everyone's life so much easier.
Since the thought of becoming organized seems to be a challenge for many, let me remind you of the things that happen to disorganized people. Forgotten appointments and deadlines, missed meetings, forgetting where files or objects were placed, lost telephone numbers, documents and tools, and general confusion. Now that you know you can still have a little clutter and still be organized, wouldn't it just make sense to avoid all that stuff and invite just a little organization into your life.
